Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHV) This type of hybrid vehicle can be charged from external power source. It combines the advantage of an electric vehicle (recharge from external source) and a hybrid vehicle (long travel range). What is Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS)? > SHVS is a lightweight and compact hybrid system that combines an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and 12V lithium-ion battery. It charges the battery with electricity generated by deceleration energy, stops unnecessary power generation during cruising and reduces engine load during fuel-consuming standing starts and acceleration by providing motor assist. Quiet Start After each engine auto stop, the ISG can start the engine without the squealing noise of a starter motor. Compact Size The compact SHVS can be added without changing the vehicle's body structure. Therefore, it maintains the comfort, utility and spaciousness of the interior. Cost efficient Unlike strong hybrids, mild hybrid requires no major system overhaul. The simple structure improves fuel efficiency with reasonable increase in cost. At Suzuki, crash tests are carried out daily to protect the driver and passengers in the event of a crash. Actual vehicles are used during the test and its body is evaluated. Suzuki carries out such crash tests repeatedly and strives to create safe vehicles for our customers.

In Suzuki's climatic wind tunnel test, rain and winter driving conditions are recreated to test vehicles for their performance and durability. This facility is capable of simulating not only extreme temperatures and exposure to sunlight, but also heavy rain and blizzards. Because Suzuki vehicles are sold all over the world, tests are carried out under harsh conditions to develop cars that can withstand the climates of various countries and regions.

In Suzuki’s road simulator endurance test, vehicles and their suspensions are tested for their durability performance. Rough road driving conditions are simulated at a vibration testing facility on which tests are carried out non-stop over several hundred hours. At Suzuki, not only off-road type vehicles and SUVs, but all categories of vehicles undergo this test to ensure safety and durability.

Vehicle air resistance is measured in the wind tunnel test. Suzuki carries out these tests on vehicles to optimize the vehicle shape while maintaining its key design. Optimizing aerodynamic performance not only enhances fuel efficiency, but also contributes to a quieter and more comfortable ride.

Engines developed in Suzuki are tested on dynamometers under actual, or sometimes in harsher driving conditions to evaluate their durability, fuel economy and other engine performance.

A new Suzuki platform was developed by radically reviewing the basic structure of the vehicle underbody in pursuit of achieving lighter weight and enhancing fundamental vehicle performance. Compared to the platform currently used in the same vehicle class, body rigidity has been enhanced by approximately 10% and, due to the use of a continuous skeletal structure that creates a smooth form, total vehicle weight has been reduced by approximately 15%.
